The same questions, in every class
I sit on the parent committee, but this is not a committee story. Every parent in every class knows the feeling. The chats keep moving, and the same questions come back: when is the next math test, and which paperwork has to be ready for this date?
Nobody is being difficult. The information was posted, once, inside one of several groups, and then it scrolled away.
A class is a lot of people
My children's elementary class has 34 kids. The older class has 38. Count the parents and it comes to about one and a half for every child (Not all parents are involved). That is a lot of people asking each other for something one person already knows.
Each class has its own space, and most of the parents have joined. A few liked it enough that they asked me to open a space for their other children, in other schools.
Parents add the celebration, kids add the test
There is no written rule about what belongs on the calendar. In practice it sorted itself out. When a child has a birthday, the parents add it. When there is a test, or work to prepare for a certain day, the kids add it themselves.
One person adds it. The rest of the class sees it, and the reminder goes out.
Less chasing each other
The reaction from other parents has been the same thing said in different ways. They love it, because they spend less time chasing each other for an answer that is already on the calendar, And, those who turned on notifications, got reminder so nothing was missed.
The practical version of that, whether or not you use this app, is one class list that answers the repeated questions. When someone asks "when is the math test?" the answer is the activity, including what to study, not another message that will scroll away. Parents add the celebrations. Whoever knows about a test or a piece of work adds that. A change edits the same item.
